Abstract


Translation is a kind of cross-language and cross-cultural communicative activity, it is considered as an indispensable and important bridge for cultural exchange between different nationalities. It is an art, a language art re-creation, a kind of creative work. To achieve the ideal artistic state, the translator should not only master two languages, be familiar with two kinds of culture, he must have the correct translation theory as guidance as well. Yet theory is ultimately theory, only the theory be utilized in reality and transferred into the translator’s translation skills, can the consummate translation between two kinds of languages be achieved. During the translation of the Uyghur Novel“The Fate”, guided by relevant translation theories, the translator resolves several problems encountered during the translation of the novel by applying the following translations skills, i.e. First, the polysemy is a widespread phenomenon existing in various languages, hence, during translation, the translator must translate with consideration of the original text and context. In this thesis paper, the skills in translating the polysemous words are discussed in three aspects, i.e. the context, the habits of expressions and the extended meaning of polysemous words; second, this thesis explores the positive impact Rhetoric Word-formation produced onto the Uygur-Chinese translation; third, the proper use of negation in text translation is also discussed. Last, the dialectical relationship between the untranslatability and translatability of each other is analyzed in this these paper as well.
