Abstract

Hoey vocabulary repeat mode is Halliday and Hasan lexical cohesion as the theoretical framework to Hasan's \new discourse analysis mode. This mode has strong practicability and maneuverability. Since the 1990s, scholars began to focus on the use of the theory to guide English listening, speaking, reading and writing instruction, but few people try to combine it and a dissertation abstract comparative analysis. This study attempts to fill this gap in order to guide the domestic dissertation abstract writing. Firstly, respectively, from PQDD (Proquest Digital Dissertation) and CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure) Title of Thesis Database English summary of each retrieved 25 established two specialized corpora; Then, Hoey vocabulary repeating pattern as the theoretical framework that leverages Antconc corpus analysis software and SPSS statistical software written by comparing American Graduate degree English abstracts at the microscopic and macroscopic structure of lexical repetition type similarities and differences that exist, and further analyze reasons for the differences and lexical repetition type selection and summary macrostructure The relationship between; Finally, summarize the results of the study of Chinese graduate English abstract writing inspiration. The results showed that: (1) two samples in a simple lexical repetition, simply turn release there are significant differences; while in complex lexical repetition, repetition, and other complex transfer the types of release there was no significant difference. (2) At the macro structure, the Chinese graduate students tend to use BIPMR (Background-Introduction-Purpose-Methodology-Results) mode; rather prefer the traditional model of American Graduate IMRD (Introduction-Methodology-Results-Discussion). Thus, on the one hand, Chinese students tend to repeat with a simple vocabulary words and make up for their lack of limited thinking in English; U.S. graduate is to use more complex vocabulary words reflect the diversity and the repeated use of language fluency. On the other hand, Chinese scholars in the summary writing, like adding background knowledge in order to help readers better understand the article convey explicit information; American scholars favor of discussing the results of the study in order to dig the article implied tacit information. In conclusion, this study on the domestic English learners understand the vocabulary Dissertation Abstract repeating patterns and macroscopic structures have some help, but, on the dissertation writing English abstracts have a certain significance.
