Abstract


Located in the southwest of Wuyuan county, Youshan village is an integral part of the system of the ancient village of Wuyuan. Since 2001, the rapid development of tourism of Wuyuan county, with many ancient villages beening developed into tourist attractions, brings challenges as well as development opportunities to these ancient villages. For the lack of reasonable planning and proper utilization, a large number of ancient villages suffered serious damages. Youshan village, the main object of this paper, being named as The Historical & Cultural Village in Jiangxi Province in July 2007 for its well preservation of the overall village pattern and numerous ancient buildings and streets, is taken as one of Wuyuan County’s important tourism resources. Because of poor roads, tourism development has not been carried out in this village. Although the tourism has not caused damage to Youshan villgae, but the impact of modern civilization does:the new buildings are continuously springing up and many ancient buildings are aging and in disrepair year after year. If no effective measures for the protection and development are taken, the outlook of village will continue to fade away.This paper, in the methods of literature review, field research and analytical synthesis, studied carefully the historical resources of the ancient village, through which it’s testified that the Youshan village is a traditional ancient village of long history, rich culture, scientifically settling, with reasonable layout building space, rich and varied street lane space, refined landscape, and natural, architectural and artistic beauty, in a word, a rare historical and cultural relics; meanwhile, according to the protection development status of its available resources, the corresponding protection and development measures are proposed, especially the preservation and transformation of Water Street is proposed. It hoped that the research can provide for the construction of the village some theoretical significance and practical guidance.This article is divided into six parts. Preface describes the background, the study status of the ancient villages. and the history of Youshan village. The second chapter starts from the location and layout of the ancient villages in Wuyuan to sum up the general elements of layout and location of the impact of the ancient villages in Wuyuan, and then analyses the location and layout features of the ancient Youshan village. The third chapter describes the characteristics of streets and nodes of Youshan village.ChapterⅣdescribes the building plan, elevation, construction, decoration of single aspects of architecture. Chapter V sums up the resources value of Youshan. Chapter VI puts forward the protection and development strategies to Youshan village,and puts forward the protection and renovation design of its water street. Finally is the conclusion parts.
