Abstract


As an Anti-Japanese War sholars, the English images of LaoShe’s Literature of Resistance reflected LaoShe’s ideas and discussions of the chinese character. This paper applies imagology of comparative literature to discuss the interacting between self image and other image, to describe the English images of pre-war works and wartime works by LaoShe, particularly the former. In a word, the British images of LaoShe’s pre-war works come from his inner life in London which present multiformity features. On the one hand LaoShe prsised the good in Britishness,such as conscientious,industrious and independent,aggressive and rational,emphasizing knowledge,well behaved and national consciousness.On the other hand LaoShe disgusted the English who discriminate against the Chinses.As LaoShe said, he paid attenttion to English for comparing Britishness with chinese. In order to reform Chinese national character,LaoShe take an example by the advantages of British national.Before the war, LaoShe took his spiritual experiences in London as a mirror.By contrast, there are some drawbacks in chinese life and culture. The English images of LaoShe’s pre-war works had an affect on the English images of Laoshe’s wartime works.During the Anti-Japanese War when the external environment changed, chinese person transformed the emotion on the British because they were in the same background. Under the Anti-Japanese War pressure,China became an ally of the British during World War II,but these allies.The English images of LaoShe’s literature of resistance not only continued the characteristics of images in pre-warm,but also appeared other new feature,for example sinicization of British image.With help of other image,LaoShe emphasized cultural critics and cultural introspection traditional in the pre-warm.The English images of LaoShe’s works which been wrote in Anti-Japanese war contained powerful strenth of Chinese culture and chinese traditional moral personality which pre-warm images lacks.In contrast with other image,LaoShe combined British national character with specific situation in China to construct ideal nationality.LaoShe’s political consciousness was enhanced in warm time.The English images provided a powerful example to cultural criticism and the self-reflections. LaoShe dedicated his life to the practice of remolding nationalism.
