Abstract


In this paper, we use different theories, including structuralism research method, Semantic orientation and Markedness theories, Cognitive linguistics, Linguistic typology theories to undertake a deep, comprehensive and systematic elaboration and explanation of embedded adjectives in the structure of modern Chinese and Vietnamese Num-measure-Nouns for the first time.The full text is divided into five chapters:ChapterⅠ. Introduction. This chapter introduces research status, literature review on related theories and methodology, and explains the source of language materials.ChapterⅡ. Classifications of embedded adjectives. Through the comparative study of embedded adjectives in the structure of modern Chinese and Vietnamese Num-measure-Nouns, it is clearer to find out the similarities and differences in terms of positions, scopes and usage rules of embedded adjectives in the structure of modern Chinese and Vietnamese Num-measure-Nouns.ChapterⅢ. Semantic Constraints of embedded adjectives. This chapter aims at clarifying the mutual constraint impact rules and relations among Numerals, quantifiers, adjective and nouns within this structure. Among these, quantifiers play the most important constraining role.ChapterⅣ. Cognitive and Typological Interpretation of embedded adjectives. Based on Cognitive linguistic theory, this chapter makes in-depth exposition of embedded adjectives. This paper combines the study of structure of other languages such as English, Japanese and Korean, therefrom finds out localized similarities which can reflect the universality of human languages.ChapterⅤ. Conclusion. In this chapter, I collate and analyze the theoretical significance and practical value of this paper, and give several viewpoints and recommendations on Chinese teaching.
