Abstract


The translation is the endless pursuit of meaning . Systemic Functional Grammar of Halliday on the significance of language analysis of discourse and its translation are very helpful . Halliday meaning of language is divided into conceptual meaning , interpersonal meaning and textual meaning , that is, the three major functions of the language , the concept of function , interpersonal function and textual function . Tao Te Ching is the ancient Chinese Taoist school classic , rich in content , profound thinking, reasoning thorough and meaningful text , is a treasure trove of the wisdom of the Chinese nation . Fundamentally speaking , it is an impact , education magnum opus , the author's purpose is to shock the reader's mind and mold the sentiment of readers , so as to guide the behavior of the readers . The interpersonal meaning explore the significance of language in interpersonal communication , interpersonal meaning is particularly important in studying the Tao Te Ching . Research should also focus on the translation of the Tao Te Ching translator accurately convey interpersonal meaning of the source text . The framework of this thesis, the theory of interpersonal function , compared to the three foreign translator English translation of the Tao Te Ching . Is divided into three chapters. The first chapter of three translations faithful from the tone system of people , is divided into two aspects of the subject and tone type specific ; Chapter II of three translations faithful people modal system , divided into specific modality retained or not , the degree of modal , modal responsibility three aspects ; Chapter III discusses the three translations interpersonal deficits , mainly from differences in cultural backgrounds , different language system differences and the translator 's interpretation of three aspects. From a new perspective , this study interpersonal meaning to convey the point description and analysis of the translation of Tao Te Ching , detail contrast studies , showed that the Tao Te Ching translation , the translator's task is to accurately convey the original author interpersonal intent interpersonal effects of impact in order to achieve the target language readers . The completion of this task requires the translator has to identify the source text interpersonal meaning , as well as the expression of the target language interpersonal meaning of the source text . Translation critics also need to consider the factors of interpersonal function in translation criticism , to avoid ambiguity , the empirical formula of criticism .
