Abstract


English Tense as a grammatical category , has been one of the main objects of study by linguists and grammarians . The traditional definition of tense said the time difference between the verbs grammatical category , that grammarians that can be used to distinguish the tenses time , and there is a one to one relationship between tense and time : said the time now , in the past , said the last time . This view by the fact that the challenges of the language , because the tense is not used in quite a few cases , indicates the time difference . Past tense as a tense areas , not just past action or state , it can be used to represent the subjunctive and polite usage . The past tense of the many uses are linked , and one of the areas we can generally past tense as the ambiguity areas . This paper attempts from the perspective of cognitive linguistics , prototype theory Polysemy past analysis . According to the prototype theory , the areas are around a prototype constructed to determine whether an object classified as a category is to see whether enough family resemblance between its prototypes . Of past usage , idioms and subjunctive and polite usage carefully analyzed , that all usage in the past have family resemblance : the time they occurred within the meaning of the action with reference to the point in time between a certain distance relationship . State usage and idioms can be seen as objectivity distance time relationship , this relationship is said to have real time distance between action status to their reference point in time , the past prototypes significance ; subjunctive and polite rule the subjective distance time relationship this relationship is action status and their time relationship with the real- time distance between the reference point in time , which is the past tense of the non- prototype significance . The article also mentioned the simple past tense extended from prototype to prototype , the authors think that the main mechanism of extended metaphor, the mechanism through metaphor , the objective distance past the time extended to a the subjective distance time relationship , which has been generally past state 's many uses .
