Abstract


This research focused on the relationship among social support, achievement motivation and career exploration. There are many factors that impact on career exploration, this research is interested in social support and achievement motivation as main independence variables. Social support means a feeling which people can perceive that he or she be cared and support from others. It contains orient and resource two aspect. The social support can make individuals adaptable and avoid the disadvantage environment. Achievement motivation means that individuals pursue the business which they believe is important and valuable and the motivation to make the business meet the perfect state. At present, many researchers discussed the achievement motivation or social support impact on career exploration. But the relationship among above three variables is not clearly yet. Thus, this research makes social support and achievement motivation as main variables to discuss in relationship with career exploration.This research revises the Career Exploration Survey (CES), developed by Stumpf et al. in 1983.Verifying internal consistency and Construct Validity of CES. Adopting questionnaire survey method and with a sample of 339 college students of RE. department from four universities in Wuhan. At first, this study has thoroughly sketched the profiles of career exploration of all the samples. Secondly, we examine the relationship between social support/achievement motivation and career exploration. Last but not the least we explored the role of achievement motivation between social support and achievement motivation.The results demonstrate that:1. The theory model which presented by Stumpf was verified in Chinese context. The confirmatory factor analysis shows that the career exploration is Second-order three factors model, it consist of exploration believe, exploration process and exploration reaction.2. The revision of CES has a good reliability and validity, obtains good psychometric properties.3. Social support, achievement motivation had a direct effect on some dimensions of career exploration. Individual-oriented achievement motivation has intermediary function between social support and career exploration.4. Demographic and context variables did affect career exploration.
