Abstract


In modern time, Ecological crisis affects people’sworld view of taking man as the foundation deeply, and results in a great conversion in human beings’understanding of development. This conversion also brings about many changes in Christian theologies, and results in new ecological theological thoughts appearing. American catholic theologian Rosemary Radford Ruether’s ecofeminist theology is one of them.This dissertation attempts to give a systematic survey of Ruether’s ecological theology and her unique way to solve ecological crisis. This dissertation attempts to give a systematic survey of Ruether’s ecological theology and her unique way to solve ecological crisis. This dissertation is divided into three chapters, besides the introduction part. The introduction part present research motivation and research summaries which are the foundation of the dissertation. The first chapter is the history review of feminist movement and feminist theology, which provides a social history background for dissertation. The two chapter is the main part of this dissertation. This chapter falls into four sections, they constitutes the main contents of Ruether’s ecofeminist theology. The main purpose of the first section of the two chapter is to make an introduction of Ruether’s life experience and her major works. The second section of the two chapter focuses on Ruether’s viewpoint of the relationships between female and nature and her criticism to the root of ecological crisis. In the three section of the two chapter, the author expounds two biblical traditions Ruether emphasizes. The covenantal tradition established a basic order for Christian world and the sacramental tradition connected human and nature with God. Ruether points out that both of them imply the harmonious and unified relationship between God, human being and nature. Moreover, the author discuss about Ruether’s attempt to instead of the God with the God/ess in order to solve the ecological crisis. The fourth section of the two chapter mainly discusses ecological justice in Ruether’s thoughts. Her research combines her Feminist, theology with Ecologism and her research thus changes from theology to social practice. The last chapter is a conclusion, the author gives a criticism to the thoughts of Ruether and also provides a revelation to Asian Feminist Theology. Through the exploration into the ecological theology of Ruether, it will help us to grasp the main content, characteristics, achievements and limitations of Christian feminist theology and ecological theology; besides, it also provides us with a different perspective to solve ecological crisis.
