Abstract


Influenced by the traditional Chinese views , Deng Xiaoping’s views on morality and interests is formed according to its own experience based on Marxism-Leninism. A whole scientific system it is, Deng Xiaoping’s views is a peculiar form which manifests our values in a new age. Personally considered the law of material interests as the dynamic mechanism for the development of national economy, Deng Xiaoping proposed a series of views on morality and interests, including“Development is the fundamental principle”, avocation of the development of productive forces, emphasis on material interests, the harmonious development between spiritual civilization and material civilization,“First rich and latter rich”and“common prosperity”etc. Considering the meaning of existence, Deng Xiaoping’s views on morality and interests can be separated into two levels of value orientation: morality and interests; public interests and private interests. Deng Xiaoping’s views on the relationship between equity and efficiency, between the public’s interests and individual’s interests are good explanations of these two levels of value orientation. The general characteristics of Deng Xiaoping’s morality and interests is the internal unity, which is embodied by the unity between internal morality and external utility, the unity between the whole interests and the individual interests and the unity between the national characteristics and spirit of the age, etc. In the new trend, Deng Xiaoping’s views on morality and interests guide the socialist construction to great achievements and correctifies the modes of people’s socialist behaviors which are advantageous for the cultivation of modern national spirit. Having taken up and developed Marxist theories of morality and interests, Deng Xiaoping’s views on morality and interests is helpful to the coordination among various relationships between different interests in contemporary society, to the public’s adherence to the correct social orientation, as well as to the social justice and harmony.
