Abstract


Tennis is a sport with long history. It is well known for its elegance, civilization to the whole world and called "gentleman’s sport" together with golf, snooker, and bowling. As a fashionable, elegant sport, tennis is very amusing and entertaining to watch. Tennis doesn’t have time limitation. Its scoring rules are complicated. Skills and tactic cooperation are needed in playing tennis. Besides, it has its unique etiquette and other characteristics which other sports don’t. Therefore it has charm that other sports do not possess and is loved by people.With the enhancement of the tennis level in our country, tennis is becoming more and more popular. Tennis, as an important event of amusement and recreation, has been gradually accepted and loved by modern college students and thus has been advocated and popularized.Tennis is developing fast in college and has become an important part of physical education and after-class exercise. In addition, the tennis course has a unique educating function, which plays an important role in helping people develop in all aspects. However, due to the limitations of realistic conditions of the college itself, the development of tennis is not smooth. Currently, the conflict between poor infrastructure conditions of colleges and demands for tennis sport is a major one to hinder the development of tennis sport. How to solve this problem has become an issue for the college management personnel and physical educators.This thesis includes a detailed investigation into college tennis courses by way of literature method, visiting method, questionnaire survey, and statistical method. I read a great deal of document to know better about the characteristics of tennis sport and educational function of tennis course. Also, I collected the thoughts and ideas of the target students through questionnaire. Moreover, I got to know deeply about the implementation of tennis course in colleges through visiting experts in this field. After analyzing the statistics and visiting record, I found that there are many problems in tennis courses.Examples are as follows:low professional levels of tennis teachers, the courts and conditions of the courts not on the same level, the utilization of the courts is not reasonable, shortage of tennis training facilities, too professionalized content in tennis course, the teaching hours too few, the teaching modes too traditional, and teaching method and means too simplex.Elements contributing to these problems are:the training of professional tennis teachers lagging behind, the huge cost of tennis facilities and not enough capital investment, lack of knowledge of the characteristics of tennis courts, inadequate theoretical research on teaching methods and means and so on.Here I suggest improve the building up the tennis teacher’s team and comprehensive quality of the teachers. We should also optimize the teaching content of tennis course, perfect the teaching system, reform the teaching methods, and utilize all kinds of teaching means flexibly to solve the problems in tennis course.
