Abstract


This article is a corpus-based comparative study on the economic crisis in the English metaphor. The main purpose of this paper is threefold: first, this paper aims to research discourse economic text discourse and ideology of dialectical relationship. Second, this paper aimed at using the method of Corpus metaphor research to explain the differences in the English metaphorical expression from a multi-dimensional point of view of language, culture and ideology. Third, we hope that readers will be able to read in the West reported the process to improve the role of ideology and culture, the history of the metaphor of choice and understanding of the economic reports. In this study, the theme of all the news reports are based on two self-built corpus - China News Corpus (CNT) and English news corpus (ENT). Economic crisis. Chinese corpus has 314,800 words and 186,000 words in the English corpus. Text to take the corpus of the economic crisis in 2008 and 2011 twice, 2008 April 1 to December 30, 2011, April 1, 2011 to June 30 days. Chinese text taken from Xinhua and the Economic Observer newspaper, the English text is taken from the Washington Times and the New York Times. All of these media are the mainstream media. The article method of combining qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, word frequency table compared CNT and ENT. Classification summary of conceptual metaphor by carefully check figurative language expression. Extended unit of meaning model proposed pursuant to Sinclair and by checking these words with words and word index, described these words with such connections semantic trends and semantic rhyme. The study found that there is a systematic difference in two sub-corpora outstanding performance in the choice of metaphors and understanding of the crisis. First, the cultural and historical factors that have played a significant role in the metaphor of choice. The Chinese corpus analogy from two river culture and Chinese idioms choice, there is no such expression in the English corpus. Second, the position reflected in the text, attitudes and ideologies have a huge difference. Tam consider the crisis first Chinese text, crisis communication and tremendous impact on China concerns are paramount. English text and the impact of the crisis may bring for his country as an important consideration. Causes and economic recovery of the attitude towards the crisis, the Chinese text blame Western countries caused by the economic crisis and developing countries described as passive victims, in English and avoided this, focus on describing the current situation of crisis. Chinese and English texts of whether the recovery of the economy, expressed optimistic attitude. Third, the ideological differences are reflected in the role played by the government in the economic activity. Government occupies an important position in the Chinese text. The government take on the responsibilities of social stability and revive the economy. English text highlights the role of the self-regulation of the market. From a linguistic point of view, we prove the corpus analysis method to criticism metaphor analysis very role. I hope this article has played a certain role in the comparative study of methods to improve metaphor.
