Abstract


Cultural heritage comprises two equivalent important parts: tangible cultural heritage and intangible cultural heritage. Tangible cultural is the vector of intangible cultural. And the intangible cultural heritage is the soul of tangible. It incarnates the city’s connotation, vigor and historic context. The protection of cultural heritage should have attached equal importance to these two parts.The protection of historic area is not a new topic. But the today’s the protection work pays more attention to the material protection, ignores the protection of intangible cultural. The historic district becomes a frame where there is no body but some scenery. It is short of vitality. But the recognition of intangible cultural heritage is at the separate condition. The protection of these two cultural heritage is ruptured. It has the vital practical significance to connect tangible cultural heritage and intangible cultural heritage, to find the survival and development environment for intangible cultural heritage, to retain the soul of historic area and to perfect the cultural heritage protection.The main research technique used in the article is the generalization method, the analytic method, the real diagnosis method. This article takes the North Front Gate for example. Through investigation, the paper generally summarizes the content and character of the intangible culture heritage, discusses how to protect the intangible cultural heritage in historic district and how to connect the intangible cultural heritage with the material space.By analysis, we have some profound understandings. The intangible culture heritage and historic area are interdependent fundamentally. The intangible culture heritage is the soul and livingness of historic area, the historic area is the survival and development space for the intangible culture heritage. So it is quite natural about the integration of the intangible culture heritage and the historic area. The second, the intangible culture heritage of historic area has more widespread and profound content. For example the life and production method, thinking mode of original resident in historical area belongs to intangible culture heritage. They materialize the vigor and the soul of historic area. The last, we should choose proper material space to reveal and protect the different type of intangible cultural heritage.
