Abstract


Professor Zhou Xiaoyan is a well-known vocal music educator, who has created an amazing educational miracle of training a number of outstanding vocal talents renowned at home and abroad during her some sixty years of teaching career and made great contribution to China’s vocal music education. There are indeed a lot of reports as well as biographical works reflecting her life experience and attitude, her academic views and remarkable achievement. However, few of them has in depth embraced the reasons underlying her achieving such an educational miracle and her distinguished teaching ideas and methods, and the features concerning the vocal music education. If there are some, most of them are only involved limited aspect.The objective of this paper is to carry out a systematic and in-depth research about Zhou Xiaoyan’s teaching ideas and methods of vocal music education, looking forward to exploring the objective law of vocal music education so as to make more workers engaged in vocal music education able to gain some enligthenment and reference and then to guide their own teaching practice.This paper adopts the methods of investigation, documentation and empirical analysis as well as a large number of typical examples to illustrate the formation of Zhou Xiaoyan’s teaching methodology and its guiding role played in the teaching practice. It also makes a summary of her main teaching ideas, her unique teaching methodology and characteristics, which help to arrive at the conclusion that Zhou Xiaoyan’s teaching ideas and methods, which were formed during her long-term practice, are the fundamental reasons that lead to such an remarkable miracle in the vocal music education.
