Abstract


This thesis dynamically analyses the notional function and pragmatics condition of modal particles in Wuhan Dialect mainly,and draws the general and detailed outline of its taxerne.The thesis has four chapers.Chaper one is an introduction to the geographic situation,areas and history of Wuhan,and the initial consonants,rhythmic entries and tones of Wuhan Dialect.The aim, sense and main methods of study are also briefly summarized.Chapter two is about several academic issues on the study of modal particles.In this part,two academic issues about category which easily can be confused and debated are discussed.One is mood,modal particle and modal particle system,the other is the genus of modal particle.On the previous issue,the connotation and extension of the three conceptions has been emphatically analysed,and the logical relationships between them have been rationalized.That paves the way for the back.In the latter issue,several different views about the category of modal particle are discussed,and finally,the view seeing modal particle as a kind of empty word independent of the auxiliary word is chosen.Chapter three is about the study on Wuhan Dialect basing on classification.This part has collected nearly all the Wuhan Dialects amounting to 24.According to the condition mood,modality and query mood which are are expressed by modal particles,we can categorize modal particles of Wuhan Dialect to the condition modal particle,modality particle and query modal particle.Condition modal particles include "Liao（T ）,Di1 （的1）,Dai（在）,Ta（它） ",a total of four.Modality particles include"Di2（的2）, Le1（咧1）,De（得）,Zuo1（着1）,Zuo2（着2）,A1（啊1）,Ba1（吧1）,O（哦）, E（呃）,Sa（唦）,Me（嚜）,Xie（些）,Lai（来）,Kan（看）,Di Hua（的话）,Jiu Si Di（就是的） ",a total of sixteen.Query modal particle include "A2（啊2）,Ba2（吧2）,Le2（咧2）,Be（啵） ",a total of four.Condition modal particle is the main symbol of condition mood.It belongs to the sentence level,and reflects the mood about the time of small clause,belonging to aspect in general.Modality particle is the main symbol of modality.lt expresses the subjective sensibility,purpose,attitude,and so on,of speaker.It reflects the modality category and belongs to cognitive category.And it is seldom restrained by syntactic structures.It can express some particles.What’s more,it can differentiate particles.Query modal particle loads query info itself.It has the function to express query.And sometimes it can transfer certain subjective mood.However,not all the particles on the last of query sentence are query particles,because some modality particles can also be on that place.Chapter four discusses the distribution and concurrence.The distribution is mainly about syntax,including in a sentence and at the end of a sentence.All the modal particles in Wuhan Dialect can be used at the end of the sentence,while a few can be in the sentence（between words,phrases,sentence and elements,and at the end of the previous clause）,including "Le1（咧1）,A1（啊1）,E（呃）,Sa（唦）,Me（嚜）,Di Hua（的话） ".These modal particles in sentence are for temporary pause initially,and then generate specific modal particles,such as list and assumption.According to the different characters of the words for concurrences,there would be congeneric concurrence and heterogeneous concurrence.We discuss congeneric concurrence.That is concurrence between particle and particle.Concurrence between two words is the most common situation in Wuhan Dialect.Modal particles of three categories combine each other, creating plenty of forms.There are a few illustrations of concurrence between three words.It is mainly generated by concurrence of two words and a following third one. Even there exists concurrence between four words.Chapter five is conclusion.This part is a conclusion to the whole thesis.It summarizes the main features of modal particles in Wuhan Dialect,expatiates some experience during the study and brings forward some advices and assumptions to the development in this area in future.
