Although Chinese men’s basketball team has favorable climatic, geographical and human conditions at 29 Olympic Games, it did not make historical breakthrough, only to equal the historical best record. It is known from the matches that our team at this Olympics games shows higher standard than that at the Athens Olympic Games, defeating Germany but falling short of Spain pitifully. All the athletes displayed good fighting style and gave the best account of themselves under Yao Ming’s leadership. However, restricted by inferior skills to some opponents, our team ranged eighth finally with four defeats and two wins.The Contrastive analysis of the data shows that Chinese men’s basketball team has a certain disparity with the strong teams in attack and defense ability. Among scoring attacks, both of two-point attempts and scoring rate of our team are obviously lower than the opponents; while three-point attempts and scores basically equal the opponents. Our team members have certain advantage in rebounds because of the height in foul lane. As to the ability of secondary attack, launch of quick attacks, transition of attack and defense, block, and steal, most of them are inferior to the world-class teams, while only blocking ability can rival the opponents. The blocking ability mainly attributes to the sealing ability of Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian, and other members are not strong in this aspect. It can be drawn that the basic skills of our team members are not very solid, and in strong confrontation particularly, there is technology deformation and lack of self-confidence.The Contrastive analysis of member position reveals a great gap between our team and the world-class team in the position of vanguard and guard. The vanguards score fewer and have fewer scoring means than that of the strong teams, while the guards need to improve their organization and scoring ability. Although Sun Yue’s performance is eye-catching, it is not as good as the opponent’s. The pass of the ball is not smooth, and the whole team is weak in attack ability.with the six matches in which Chinese men’s basketball team participated at 29th Olympic games as subjects, this thesis carries out a comparative study on the attack ability, the defense ability and the member position between the Chinese team and its opponents through analyzing the video records, literature review, data collection and analysis. The thesis compares the Chinese team with its opponents in their utilization of techniques and tactics, which finds out the disparity between our team and the world-class teams, and provides basis for later training and competition. In order for the Chinese men’s basketball team to rank among the world-class teams, some suggestions are put forward as follows:1. Improve attack skills of each member, and enrich attack tactics of the whole team.2. Further enhance the defense techniques and tactics, particularly the skill of snatch, hit, and break in tight defenses.3. Raise the members’ awareness of fast transition of attack and defense4. Strengthen the members’ ability of physical confrontation and the confidence to win.5. Strengthen the attack capability of backcourt players, increase two-point attempts, and improve the operational capacity of the whole team.6. Evolve its own style of techniques and tactics.7. Adopt the dual strategy of introducing and leading out to the trainers and the athletes.
