Abstract


The roving bandits of the border region of Yunyang were one of the most important social issues since Middle Ming. After suppressed the revelation and the foundation of Yunyang Fu, the reestablishing of local order became the chief task of local government. This study focuses on the process of the local government control this area by Lichia system, water conservancy works and academies.LiIchia and Fuyi. A new Lichia system would confirm the obligations and rights of different social groups also absorbed the settlers into the census register system. However, the government rearranged the Fuyi order, and made sure of the income of local finance. The system of local control that existed in this area was a product of the foundation Yunyang Fu and confronted the imperial rulers.Water conservancy works. This Chapter takes issue with such a view of local government’s action. The number of water conservancy works increased during Ming and Qing Dynasties. The feature of these works was that the nearer the work located to the local political centre, the more important it would be.Academies. The source of students of Yunshan Academic, Longmen Academic of Yunyang in the Ming Dynastry and Lumen Academic of Xiangyang in the Qing Dynastry coincided with the areas of Xunfu and Shoudao, which were related with the local political structure. This was the feature of the progress of local education development.
