Background and Purpose: nasopharyngeal carcinoma is the most common malignant tumors of the head and neck, World Health Organization statistics, about 80% of the NPC and China. VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) is the most active angiogenic currently known to generate one of the factors, can promote the proliferation of vascular endothelial, increased vascular permeability and matrix conditions for the vascular endothelial cell growth, migration, and inhibit tumor important role in apoptosis. EGFR (vascular endothelial growth factor receptor), VEGF with high affinity, both specific binding, trigger cell division signal, causing cell proliferation, EGFR expression abnormality enables the transformation of normal cells into tumor cells, and increased tumor invasion and metastasis ability. In this study, the use of immunohistochemical detection in 57 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissue VEGF, EGFR expression in chronic inflammation of the tissue of 27 patients with nasopharyngeal VEGF, EGFR expression of VEGF and EGFR expression levels and clinical data as well as between each other relationship. Materials and Methods: 2009 -2010 determine in our hospital with newly diagnosed 57 cases of nasopharyngeal cancer nasopharyngeal biopsy specimens. 44 cases were male and 13 females; ages of 17-74 years old; the pathological type non-keratinizing carcinoma undifferentiated 19 cases, 30 cases of differentiated non-keratinizing carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma of the eight cases. According to the 2002 AJCC standard 57 cases, T1 27, T2 17 Li, T3 8 Li, T4 5 cases; the N0 16 cases, N1 20 cases, N2 19, N3 2 Li; Ⅰ 13 cases, Ⅱ 13 cases, 19 cases of stage Ⅲ, Ⅳ stage in 12 cases. 27 patients with nasopharyngeal chronic inflammation conventional paraffin specimens selected by the Department of Pathology of our hospital over the same period of the nasopharynx biopsy specimens by HE staining diagnosed nasopharyngeal mucosa with chronic inflammation. Male 16, female 11 cases as the control group. All specimens immediately after in vitro with 10% neutral buffered formalin fixed, embedded in paraffin, paraffin sections 2μm thick serial sections using the Envision TM two-step detection of VEGF, EGFR expression with statistical the SPSS13.0 software on the experimental data. Results: 1.VEGF EGFR in nasopharyngeal carcinoma were positive. VEGF in nasopharyngeal carcinoma with lymph node metastasis and clinical stage significant correlation (P lt; 0.05), and the patient's age, gender, pathological type related to sex (P gt; 0.05). EGFR expression and nasopharyngeal neck lymph node metastasis was significantly correlated (P lt; 0.05), and the patient's age, gender, histological type, clinical stage related to sex (P gt; 0.05). EGFR in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and VEGF was positively correlated (P lt; 0.01) Conclusion: 1.VEGF and EGFR in nasopharyngeal carcinoma have a wide range of expression. Lymph node metastasis and clinical stage 2.VEGF expression and nasopharyngeal neck there is a significant correlation, and the patient's age, gender, pathological type no correlation. 3.EGFR expression and nasopharyngeal neck lymph node metastasis was significantly correlated, and the patient's age, gender, histological type, clinical stage no correlation. EGFR in nasopharyngeal expression of VEGF was positively correlated with both common or related pathways in the pathogenesis of NPC.
