Abstract

Objective: To understand the Tianjin men with men (MSM) populations of HIV and syphilis infection rates, sexual behavior characteristics, AIDS awareness and condom use, to explore the crowd HIV and syphilis in high-risk factors for the development of effective prevention and treatment of HIV and syphilis strategy to provide scientific research basis. Methods: A cross-sectional survey method, respectively, in April-June 2008, September-November 2008 and April-June 2009, a total of 1799 MSM conducted a questionnaire survey to understand the basic situation of the object of study, AIDS knowledge awareness, sexual behavior characteristics, condom use, past medical history; person per acquisition 3-5ml venous blood, applications HIV screening antibody detection and syphilis plasma reagin test (Rapid Plasma Reagin Circle Card, RPR) Western blotting (Western Blot, WB) test confirmed detection of HIV and syphilis infection, HIV screening suspicious. Results: (1) the 1799 respondents, HIV confirmed positive for 133 people, the detection rate was 7.4%; the Syphilis RPR positive 269 people, the detection rate was 15.0%. (2) The average age was 28.7 years old; career of various types; higher education level, college or higher education accounted for 37.2%; married accounted for 33.0%; 39.5% through the bars, dance halls, tearooms, clubs looking for sex partners, 38.5% via the Internet, and 18.9% through the bath, sauna, foot massage establishments and 3.0% in parks, public toilets, lawn looking for sexual partners. (3) The average AIDS knowledge awareness rate was 80.8%, TV and internet is the main way to get AIDS knowledge. (4) only 30.8% of respondents had received an HIV test. (5) sexual orientation: 58.3% consider themselves homosexual, 5.7% consider themselves heterosexual, 32.1% consider themselves bisexual; nearly half of the average number of male partners was 23.7 ± 7.3: 76.2% (1371) The study of condom use in the last anal sex with men, while nearly half a year to insist on using condoms, compared to just 36.2%; first penetrative sex occurs between the age of 12-40 years old, the average age was 19.5 ± 2.6 years. (6) the HIV screening positive rate of 7.4%, no significant difference in the positive rate of HIV screening in all age groups; RPR screening positive rate was 15%, 45 years old and above age group RPR screening for syphilis highest positive rate, as 22.9%, followed less than a 25-year-old age group, 19.5% positive rate of syphilis RPR screening among groups with significant difference (P = 0.002) Conclusion: MSM of HIV and syphilis infection rate is much higher than the rest of the population , MSM affect important population of the city in the future of HIV and syphilis spread, AIDS, syphilis and other sexually transmitted diseases prevention should focus on the crowd.
