Abstract


Instant messaging software has been gaining in popularity as a convenient network communication technology , information exchange platform applications ranging from simple network chat tool becomes indispensable working life . Because of its importance to identify its problems and its limitations , it is particularly urgent. According to the extensive literature survey summarized and the actual situation , elaborated in two ways : on the one hand the current IM software is basically concentrated in the MS Windows platform , with little regard Linux and smart handheld devices, end - user demand ; On the other hand various commercial software using their own proprietary IM protocols , makes various IM can not communicate with each other , which bring inconvenience to the popularity of IM applications . If you can network instant messaging software, the introduction of the Linux operating system and be able to solve the interoperability of the software , is not only to make up for the lack of application software in the Linux system , the status quo is also important , at the same time on the Linux system and the popularity of instant messaging software . Through analysis , IM and research model , and the comparison of several popular instant messaging protocols , the authors decided to use XML-based XMPP protocol , proposed a scalable framework for network software , server communication , connection made a choice and service models , the thought of thin client to client . In the specific implementation of the system , the client design related interface and corresponding interface to achieve the landing, register, send a message, query information , add friends , send files and other functions ; server-side one by one central router components , server connection management components , client Connection Manager components , session management components , domain name resolution components of each module , with the thread groove program to solve the concurrency of the server . Authors use Linux C language , MYSQL and the GLADE complete system software development , completed initial attempt to mainstream instant messaging software and the most promising development in the operating system combination ; certain aspects of interoperability with MSN and design the appropriate protocol conversion gateway reference for future software interoperability .
