Abstract


Li Dazhao’s democracy idea is the core element of his complex law and political ideology, which experienced from democrat to Marxist in the period of“the May 4th Movement”. Study Li Dazhao’s democracy idea and its evolution in the period of“May 4th”will not only help to study the democracy history of modern China, as well as the Marxist-oriented development process in China, but also for the construction of socialist democracy in China has very important reference meanings.In this paper, the historical background of Li Dazhao’s democracy idea will be introduced firstly, then select the development process of Li Dazhao’s democracy idea in the period of“May 4th”(1915-1921) as the main line, the full text is divided into six parts to expound:The first part is the historical background of Li Dazhao’democracy idea .Due to the special historical environment in modern China, Li Dazhao’democracy idea is not only cater to the historical demand, but also reflects the intense political desire of saving country. Therefore, comb the historical background of Li Dazhao’democracy idea will have a vital significance to understand and master Li Dazhao’s democracy idea.The second part is the theoretical source of Li Dazhao’s“minyi politic”idea. Li Dazhao’s“minyi politic”is the combining theoretical perspective of modern western political theories and traditional chinese confucianism political philosophy. Meanwhile, Li Dazhao is growing up in the revolution of 1911, the liberal and democracy trend in revolution period which is the hotbed for the development of Li Dazhao’s democracy idea.The third part is the main content of Li Dazhao’s“minyi politic”idea.“minyi politic”can be summarized by“attaching importance to people as its spirit, representative institutions as its modality, the politic which shall come into contact with law and public opinions.”Thereinto, freedom is its base value and the core, the democratic consciousness of national is its root and spring. The fourth part is the turning and transition of Li Dazhao’s democracy idea. The fall through of bourgeois republic scheme in China and the decay of capitalist civilization make Li Dazhao suspect and fluctuate the bourgeois democracy. The new democracy politics after the October revolution in Russia make Li Dazhao catch sight of new hope, so he turns his eyes on Russian socialism.The fifth part is the establishment of Li Dazhao’s Ergatocracy idea. With the view of historical materialism and classes viewpoint setting , Li Dazhao began to use the Marxist stand, viewpoint and method to analyze problems, in which had a profound understanding with the essence of capitalist democracy, thus abandoned the idea that establish the European-American democracy type in China, and established the Ergatocracy ideology.The sixth part is the main content of Li Dazhao’s Ergatocracy idea. Li Dazhao associated with socialism and democracy, consider that socialism is the more elevation level and the inevitable trend in the development of democracy. Ergatocracy is also a kind of populist in essence, but only Ergatocracy is“the real political populist”.The dictatorship of the proletariat is the inevitable stage to realize“the real Ergatocracy”.The evolution of democracy ideology of Li Dazhao in May 4th movement is the epitome of social transformation and modernization in modern China. Li Dazhao’s democracy idea reflects the era of the whole Chinese monism steering. However, Li Dazhao’ideology itself has some qualities that make Li Dazhao can be more far-sighted than other intellectuals contemporary. He is the earliest steering Marxist thinker in China, at the same time, he is not tied to Marxism, but elucidate its profound significance in a creative way, pave the way for the sinicization of Marxism.
