Abstract


Internet breaks the limitation of time and space, provide a broader communication platform. The cyberspace is usually seen as a public sphere, due to its publicness and freedom. College youth group is the key user of internet, they can’t live without it. So, the meaning of virtual space to them is not just as a public sphere, they constitute their own private sphere.Y BBS, which is a years old unofficial campus BBS is chosen for the objective to do the participant observation. With a longtime fieldwork, the article drew a holistic picture of the active process of building public and private sphere between the interactions of users, of which the power relationship is also the concern. Time is also a direction for study the changing and reconstitution of public and private sphere. For thick descript the historical line of public and private of Y BBS, multiple meanings of the two spheres are appeared. The result of the study shows that structure of the power relationship is not stable, it is changing with the transfer of the time and space, so the boundary between public and private sphere is changing too. The stronger publicity, the more clear self-awareness. It is not a coincidence that Y BBS go out of the campus, and it not represents the broader of public sphere. With the longtime supervision of the school, Y BBS go out of the campus is the corollary of people’s self-awareness.
