Abstract


ObjectiveTo observe the axial length and corneal diameter in early stage(2.5-5 years old) after pediatric cataract extraction and intraocular lens implantation.Method39 patients (63 eyes) with congenital cataract, who undergone pediatric cataract extraction, posterior continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis and anterior vitrectomy within 6 months and received intraocular lens implantation in 2.5 years old, were included. The patients were divided into 3 groups. The axial length and corneal diameter were reviewed and compared with those of normal children. The postoperative follow-up ranged from 12-24 months. The differences of axial length and corneal diameter were analyzed.ResultThe mean axial length of three groups were 22.05±124mm、22.67±1.21mm and 23.63±1.22mm respectively. There was statistically significant difference compared with those of normal children (P<0.05). The mean corneal diameter of three groups were 11.4688±0.3394mm、11.5917±0.2666mm and 11.6650±0.1794mm respectively. There was no statistically significant difference compared with those of normal children (P>0.05).Conclusion The axial length of congenital cataract child in early stage after pediatric cataract extraction and intraocular lens implantation is longer than the normal child. The develop tendency of the pseudophakic eye’s axial length is more obvious than the normal child. There is no significant influence on corneal diameter compared with the normal child.
