As the Internet and 3G mobile communication technology , digital video transmission and processing into a hot current technology, how to better improve the compression of digital video is one of the key technologies. Generation of video compression coding standard H.264/AVC good theory put forward to improve the current level of video compression , and through the complete VLSI hardware implementation of the algorithm , the algorithm can be efficiently used in various fields. In H.264/AVC standard , using the support of 1/4 pixel accuracy motion estimation algorithm, and supports adaptive block size and frame adaptive coding field . These have greatly increased the computational complexity of motion estimation , this paper proposes a support MBAFF (Macroblock Adaptive Frame Field Coding, macroblock level adaptive frame field coding ) motion estimation engine for VLSI implementation . Parallel modular architecture through innovative and efficient operation unit matches the SAD , SAD only by a matching operation , different block sizes can be obtained , the SAD different encoding modes result obtained by the judgment of a coded macroblock of the best block division and frame field mode decision . Comprehensive on paper design and performance analysis , the results showed that in the worst case, this article is designed in 1109 is still able to clock cycles to complete a macro block motion estimation , while the integrated clock frequency up to 150MHz. Therefore, this design allows for high performance motion estimation , and video images can be used for large resolution real-time encoding .
