Objective:To investigate the main etiology factors in elderly syncope patients.Methods:98 elderly patients with syncope whose age was more than 60,were studied in department of neurology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University from 2002 to 2009.All the patients were matched with syncope diagnosis and guideline by clinical standards referred to European Heart Attack Association (ESC) in 2009. Statistacal analysis of patients with the following information:age, sexuality, positions when syncope occurs, risk facters and induced events (longstanding, dining, fear, acheetc.),accompanying symptoms (nausea, vomit, abdominal incomfort, vertigo, palpitations, blurred vision, sweat, pale complexion, fall etc.),Lose of consciousness duration, previous history(Hypertension disease, cerebral disease, heartattack, diabetes disease),head CT or MRI, ECG or Holter, EEG, Echocardiography, neck vascular ultrasound.Retrospective analysis of all cause of syncope.Result:1.Elderly syncope patients have 51.85%(98/189) of the whole syncope, among them male 61 example, female 37 example. The ration of men an women is 1.6:1.The age of onset was 60-89 years old and the mean age was 71.59±7.81years old. The age group from 60-70years old have the mostly proportion, totally 45 persons, with increasing age the incidence of downward trend.2.Into the group of 98 cases in older syncope patients,32cases was cardiac patients, accounting for 32.95%,among them, sick sinus syndrome and 2 degrees or more atrioventricular block patients accounting for 14cases,paroxysmal ventricular tachycardia patients accounting for 4cases,atrial fibrillation accounting for 3 cases,fast-slow syndrome accoun-ting for lcase, acute coronary syndrome accounting for 1 case, coronary heart disease accounting for 4cases, heart failure accounting for 3 cases, bundle branch block accounting for 2cases.Nerve-mediated syncope patients had 43 cases, accounting for 43.88%(43/98).Among them,11 cases was vasovagal syncope, and, cartid sinus syncope was 2cases,mental illness was only one case.Upright hypotension syncope patients had 2 cases, accounting for 2.04% (2/98).Nervous system diseases and other causes patients had 14 cases.Conclusions:1.Elderly patients with syncope in hospitalized patients of all occupied a larger proportion. The age group from 60-70years old have the mostly proportion, with increasing age the incidence of downward trend.2.The main cause of elderly syncope was nerve-mediated syncope,Foll-owed by cardiogenic syncope, other reasons, such as orthostatic hypotensio-n,nervous system diseases, pulmonary, metabolic causes an unknown reasons rare.3.It will have great signifacance to control or delay incident onset if we can prevent and treat these causes of elderly syncope.
