Abstract

Abstract Objective To investigate the incidence of Lianyungang rural communities in elderly patients with hypertension atherosclerosis status quo and its relationship with blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and smoking. Method from October 2008 to June 2009, the use of the methods of investigation of the status of the epidemiology, clinical epidemiology block randomly selected the Lianyungang community 45 to 75 years in patients with essential hypertension, the use of standard operating procedures blood pressure measurement, automatic biochemical analyzer Enzymatic determination of total cholesterol (total cholesterol, TC). By a specialist trainees with the same color ultrasound instrument object carotid intima - media thickness (CIMT) and plaque examination, a questionnaire survey conducted by the unified training of specialized personnel for epidemiological data. Indicators univariate and multivariate analysis. The results of this study were included in object 1346, male 585, female 761. The average age of men is 59.88 ± 7.65 years, women 58.59 ± 7.32 years old. CIMT average thickness of male 0.72 ± 0.14 mm, female 0.70 ± 0.14mm. Plaque detection rate of 49.1% of men and 32.5% women. Systolic blood pressure average male the 167.91 ± 20.84mmHg, female 169.69 ± 20.99mmHg. Diastolic blood pressure average male 98.02 ± 12.27mmHg, women 94.56 ± 12.23mmHg. Total cholesterol male 5.26 ± 1.15mmol / L, female 5.47mmol / L. Male 30.8% had never smoked, smoking 51.7%. 94.6% women who never smoked, smoking 2.9%. The systolic and CIMT positively correlated with the grade of hypertension increased the risk of detection plaque. Between fasting plasma glucose and CIMT is not a linear relationship. Fasting plasma glucose ≥ 7.0 mmol / L in patients detected more than two plaques significantly increased risk. Total cholesterol in male subjects in a positive correlation with CIMT, total cholesterol ≥ 5.69mmol / L significantly thicker CIMT detection CIMT GT; 0.8mm's risk increased significantly. Women total cholesterol and CIMT no linear relationship between total cholesterol ≥ 5.69mmol / L, and the detection risk of carotid artery plaque significantly increased risk of. The CIMT and smoking are positively correlated, never smoked, ex-smokers and current smoking object CIMT thickness in ascending order. And an increased risk of smoking in patients with plaque detection. Conclusions Lianyungang community elderly hypertensive population the higher atherosclerosis prevalence of, CIMT thickness and systolic blood pressure was positively correlated. Fasting blood glucose more than 7.0mmol / L or total cholesterol more than 5.69mmol / L in hypertensive patients with increased risk of atherosclerosis. Male smokers also increased atherosclerosis risk.
