Abstract

With the development of the mental health education in China, counseling has become a very important way for Chinese college students. How to increase the effect of counseling has also become a concern for many counselors. To seek counseling for help can be affected by the attitude on counseling; However, the attitude on counseling can be affected by expectations of counseling. It’s much better for counselors to find strategies if the expectations and the attitude of the clients on counseling can be known. As the regards to counseling expectations, the study of it started out earlier in some countries which are more advanced in demography variable, psychology variable and culture variable likewise factors have been explored. It has been studied that counseling expectations could be affected by different culture, races and value, so studies on counseling of college students abroad couldn’t give us a correct answer about Counseling Expectations of Chinese college students. Thereby, it’s quite necessary to study counseling expectations of college students of Inner Mongolia and its affecting factors, and theory models as well. The study found:1. College Students in Inner Mongolia region have higher expectations of Counseling, which can be understood from two aspects. On the one hand, the College students may have positive and optimistic attitudes on counseling; On the other hand there is idealization of counseling in the college students’minds.2. College students in Inner Mongolia region have lower expectations in‘Personal Commitment’than the expectations in‘Counselors’Characters’.3. Female College students in Inner Mongolia region have higher counseling expectations than male college students. It fact shows that female college students are far more positive, more optimistic and more willing to express their emotions and thoughts in counseling.4. The College students are Han Nationality who have a higher expectation on Counseling than those in Mongolian Nationality in Inner Mongolia. It shows a very high score in‘Counselors’Characters’. It indicates that college students in Han nationality have more concern about counselors. However, for those college students in Mongolia nationality, it’s better to choose Mongolian counselors to serve for them who consider the factors of culture and value concepts when they need.5. The freshmen in have higher expectation and more idealistic in counseling; The sophomore of college students have the lowest expectations, which goes higher for junior college students and tends to be objective in counseling for the senior students.6. The college students of science have higher expectations than those of Art students in counseling.7. The students who have the experience of counseling have more realistic expectations than those who have no experiences.8. Three factors of Asian Social Value including with self-control, self-success and the family honor, mental health control have significant predict effect on‘Personal Commitment’, self-control, self-success and obeying the rules , mental health control, concern with social stigma of counseling have significant predict effect on‘Counselors’Characters’.9. Mental health control has significant predict effects on expectations of counseling. More control of self has more expectations on‘Personal Commitment’. More control of environment has more expectations on‘Counselors’Characters’.10. Concern with social stigma of counseling has significant negative effects on‘Counselors’Characters’expectations.11. Social Value has significant effect on Counseling Expectation, especially in self-control and self-success.
