Abstract


The objective of this study is to choose the appropriate cultivars for Olympics use and improve the storage procedure. Thirty-one cultivars of Peony cut flowers that can easily gain largely from production area were used as materials. Storage characteristics as well as changes of Cyanide-resistant respiration in different senescence process were tested. The Post-harvest handling for peony cut flower were improved. Results showed as follows :.①The appropriate cultivars for Olympics use are recommended:‘Tao Hua Fei Xue’,‘Chun Xiao’,‘Zi Feng Yu’,‘Tian Shan Hong Xing’and‘Qing Wen’.②The storage characteristics of Peony cut flowers are significantly correlated with cultivars. The main problems are water-loss and rot in the long storage time. Low correlations exist between storage characteristics, vase life or blossom rate and flower type, flower color or flowering character.③The aptimum length for peony cut flowers is 40cm to 70cm, and the packing box is recommended as 80cm×30cm×20cm. Packing capacities vary with different cultivars.④For most cultivars of Peony cut flowers, refrigerator car is a better transportation way than train; The way that each box with thin plastic inside filled 80 branches cut folwers that wrapped with paper then put into black plastic bags is the excellent optimized method for the following storage.⑤Different cultivars of Peony cut flowers need under various pre-treatments solution. For longtime storage, the cut flowers are forehand immerged in 1,000-times Chlorothalonil then dry in the air and packed with paper; The cut flowers presterilized with Chlorothalonil and carbendazim get high quality after being stored than those without pretreatment; Different cultivars of Peony cut flowers have different reaction for anti-transpiration. Considering a practical storage situation, twelve branches per packet is appropriate.⑥The membrane-lipid peroxidation was not the only reason for the membrane damage during the period of storage. The changes of Cyanide-resistant respiration vary with different pre-treatments. Cyanide- resistant respiration rate decreased with an increase of rot rate.
