Abstract


This paper divides Lu You’s fifty-seven Ji proses into three sections of time period according to his life experiences, namely, the beginning of his official career, between his going to Shu and back to the east, and living in seclusion. Taking a broad view, we can find that his proses from first two periods reflect the close relationship between Lu You’s life and the realistic politics and military, and the strong patriot and sharp pertinence; while the proses from the third period express his quiet, mildness and tranquilness. According to the artistic characteristics, this paper also divides all the proses into four types which are about pavilions, halls and gardens; about temples; about learning; and about others. And at the same time it finds out a main thread of Lu You’s ideas on the base of the commentary on their contents, that Lu You has been concerned about society, life, national economy and the peolple’s livelihood, meanwhile, and he attached importance to the spices of life.Lu You’s proses are imbued with four main artistic features, which are the well-knit but flexible structures; using variety of artistic forms, such as description, argument, lyricism, and so on; terse and amiable linguistic style; and being skilled in using allusions. Lu You adopted Ji prose as his main form of literature, and all showed his special artistic value from description, argument, and lyricism, so his proses occupy an important place in the development history of Ji prose.
