Abstract


Hermeneutics is an old skill concerning understanding and interpretation. Scholars including philosophers and historians have always been exploring how to sduty hermeneutics. One of the most prominent is Gadamer.Hermeneutics went through the period of the Enlightment and Romanticism, which had been a long time before the philosophical turn of hermeneutics of Heidegger. And it aroused people to rethink the truth of hermeneutics within the area of Geisteswissenschaft. Gadamer created the philosophical hermeneutics and its core concept——Wirkungsgeschichte, also called effective history, based on Heidegger and Hegel,. Effective history means the history of process during which there is interaction between the meaning of text and interpreter. As the text represent its historic horizon and so does the interpreter, the meaning and the interpreter may make constant contact so that the continuous meaning will be made. Gadamer interprets this theory from the dimensions of its connatation in an analytical way, including its dialectical structure, its relevance with empirical theory, as well as criticism of historicism, etc. The birth of an influential theory may indefinitely arouses the interests of people and has the strong impact on many relevant fields. So is to the theory of effective history. To the area of philosophical hermeneutics, many scholars, like Emilio Betti, Jurgen Habermas, and Paul Ricoeur, etc, propose their different sights on it; to the linguistics, especially the field of translation, it is of the obviously remarkable significance on the redefinition of translation, and the strategies of retranslation.
