The symbol in decoration arts is an important part in the human culture, which is inflected by the change of society and development of human. In this thesis, theoretical study of decoration arts are carried out from semiology, which shows the functions of images, characters, colors, symbols and visual communications in decoration arts. Seen from visual characteristics, the symbol is a representation of visualization in decoration arts, at the same time, it’s an indication of human culture including symbol structure, society culture, history and national spirit. By selecting, combining, transferring, regenerating, all of these elements related to the human culture compose the symbols to expressing our thought. These symbols show people’s thought completely, accept by others correctly. At the same time, by studying the symbols in decoration arts, origin of culture is traced well in this thesis. Traditional, national and local cultures are connected with symbols in decoration arts, which exploits a way to understanding, inheriting and developing the symbols in our decoration arts.
