Abstract


As a leading player in the China glass industry, SYP Company has gotten a long-term competitive advantage in float glass segment and explored the downstream segments like construction processing glass and auto glass.However, entering the 21 century, Chinese glass industry has witnessed accelerated evolvement, which includes the increasingly keen competition in float glass market as a result of many manufacturers building up production lines of float glass. What’s more, SYP is also threatened by the fact that many of its key customers are expanding their business by entering the upstream segment of float glass manufacture. The intensive evolvement of the glass industry has put SYP to adjust the current strategy.Given the situation, and based on the developing stages and achievement of SYP, first, this study analyzes SYP’s external environment including macroeconomic and dynamic competition. Then it ensures that integrative developing strategy is a good choice of SYP.Further to the integrative developing strategy, the auto glass, as the increasing point on profit in the future, should be developed as a unique auto glass production chain with SYP characteristic while the company also should keep its traditional advantage on its business. Thus, the study is focused on how to take better advantage of the production of raw plate for the auto glass. This study introduces the production processes of float glass, and has a total analysis on raw plate of auto glass production through product, quality, cost and production line layout. The study makes it clear that the raw plate of auto glass is the production with big scale, and leads to production strategy of specialized production line.The strategy of specialized production needs specialized layout of warehouse production line. Meanwhile, according to the character of auto glass market, the study had a detail analysis and comparison to the layout of production line by means of the theory of operation management. Also, by applying the theory of modern manufacture mode, the study gets the conclusion of a production mode, which makes raw plate of auto glass more competitive. It’s a mixing production mode focusing on the main line while off-line cutting production as supplement.In sum, the study makes a constructive design to the actual sample of new production line of SYP Company according to specialized layout strategy and related production mode.
