Abstract


Web-based workflow system design is given based on the study and analysis of workflow management system structure , workflow model, workflow modeling methods and so on proposed by Workflow Management Coalition.System design is composed of three parts including process modeling, workflow engine design and system application. In process modeling activity-network modeling method is adopted. Activity is the basic unit in process and connecting arc expresses process logic. In this way enterprise management process is turned to be process model. Process definition parser works according to Schema document preset in memory. Schema document is based on XML and so parser has popularity as an independent module.Workflow engine includes parser, control center, meta-model, instance library, route selector, worklist, monitoring management. Engine work process is analyzed. Activity instance state transition rules and worklist are presented. Version is introduced in activity schedule. It indicates the instance version of activity and transition to meet workflow definition change. Activity schedule algorithm and role-base access control method are presented.System application design can be divided into three parts presentation layer, business layer and data layer. System control and related data is obtained by system middleware interface and this data is used in programming for interaction during the presentation layer design. Business layer includes engine and middleware which exists in form of Com+. Data layer is made up of workflow model database, workflow instance database and application database. Project-advanced office flow instance is presented and it illustrates functions of flow definition, flow execution, role settings and so on. It is proved that Web-based workflow system can meet automatic circulation of structured flow including business flow and document flow. It can be used in the fields of program examination, information transmission in or out office, and so on. Workflow engine and modeling tool in this system have popularity and can serve several workflow systems. Middleware supports several exploit tools and re-development can be easily achieved. Compared with other workflow system it is a workflow technology application system which can satisfy enterprise business demand and comply with workflow management coalition standard.
