Abstract

This article deals with photon detection system is CERN 's Large Ion Collider Experiment multiple photon detection system for detecting a group . The system includes a data transmission, configure, monitor , triggering functions. For its monitoring function , the detection system designed front-end electronics board FPGA-based controller module. The module needs to implement the read -out control unit , the environment and condition monitoring devices of the ADC , DAC chip devices and bias settings , and other peripheral devices communicate , to achieve real-time monitoring and setting system status purposes. Because of its need to communicate with a plurality of peripheral devices , and therefore in its interior forms a multi-protocol bus. Multiple protocols share the bus, the bus arbitration is required to avoid bus conflicts may arise expropriation . This paper presents the demand for photon detection system used in multi-protocol bus program, which includes a plurality of bus protocols I2C bus , SPI bus , Altro bus and RCUI2C bus. Wherein , Altro bus is available for high-speed parallel data transfer bus, the read-out control unit and high-speed communication ; I2C bus, SPI bus, and the bus was low RCUI2C serial bus , each device with the MCU , the bias set the DAC and the read -out control unit of the communication . In this research work , written using Verilog HDL code for the multi-protocol bus in ModelSim and Quartus II environment for multi-bus protocol simulation , simulation results show that the designed multi-protocol bus to meet the design requirements. Quartus II is the project for synthesis, place and route, generate download BIT or PROM file, to the controller within the FPGA chip hardware debug and test , the test results show that the design of multi-protocol bus to achieve the desired requirements, to meet the needs of the controller . This article is designed to achieve the multi-protocol bus has some versatility , so the other designs with similar needs a certain reference value.
