Abstract


With the improvement of the living condition, we have more spare time for activities and the outdoor leisure is closely related to the urban open space. Although we have reconstructed and built various kinds of urban open spaces in our fast-growing urban, the space is lack of vitality and fails to bring an exciting lifestyle in comparison with that in the developed countries.In this paper, the interaction between the leisure activities and the open space is discussed and the importance of the open space design is explored. In terms of our study, we then summarize some common ideas and the methodology in the landscape design.The paper is organized as the follows:First, we review the history of the urban open space, reveal the interactive factors between the open space and the social life and illuminate the development trend by this interaction.Then two aspects about how the modern life demands more urban open space in China are elaborated. The characteristics of modern leisure life are summarized; on the other hand, data analysis, survey, interview and other methods are utilized to study the usage of the urban open spaceAt last, based on theoretical and practical research on some existed excellent landscape design, we propose two concepts:“Environment Concept of Passive Leisure Space”and“Urbanization of Space”. Whereas, we elaborate the urban open space design methodology and discuss how to create the harmony of the open space and the leisure life from five different levels, openness, accessibility, diversity, participation and ecology. In general, our research is practical, targeted and manoeuvrable, which will contribute to the formation of a lively and high-quality open space in China.
