Abstract


With the increasing complexity and coverage of networks, the monitoring and maintenance of network has become correspondingly complicated, the role of network management more important, and the definition of network management more meaningful than ever before. Network performance management, as one of the five major traditional functions of network management, is of vital significance as far as its technology study and implementation are concerned.The author participates in the project of "system management and network management", which focus of the author’s research is on the project’s sub-system of performance management design and implementation. You will find an introduction of the basic principle of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol),Time Synchronization Technology,RMI(Remote Method Invocation),SOAP(Simple Object Access Protocol) and so on. Then the author study on the general situation of the research of network performance management. In this paper, an in-depth study and analysis have been made into the system’s implementation, using comprehensive analysis tools, and from diverse aspects. The results of the network performance analysis are presented with a variety of charts and diagrams. Meanwhile, an easily-accessible performance database is offered for statistical analysis and presentation. After having made a study of the fundamental technology for network performance management and an analysis of the existing performance management products, a network management system which suits the Chinese status has been designed and implemented.The research of the project has taken advantage of a multitude of new technologies and contemporary ideas, and has rendered both theoretical and technological support to the perfection of the functions of performance management under a mega-scope and complicated network circumstances; it also prepares a foundation and a framework for a future study of network performance and an in-depth analysis and optimization of network configuration.
