Abstract


Since 1970s, intraindustry trade had grown an increasing portion of total trade volume Traditional trade theory could not explain such trend. New trade theory advocates like Krugman employed increasing return and monopolistic competition explaining the rationale of intraindustry trade. He believes technical competition is the essence of trade competition. Innovation resource endowment determines the ability of RD, thus determines their position in a later competition in actual product markets. It is becoming increasingly important to understand the role of innovation resource integration in such context. During the twenty years after the open and reform policy, innovation resource in Zhejiang began to emerge and accumulated, the industry, economic and social environment which facilitate innovation is by and large established. This is a process of systematically interaction between resources and innovative institutions. Through a thorough review of the past experience and current situation for Zhejiang innovation resource integration, we could make self assessments objectively. By discovering and eliminating the obstacles which restrain innovative activities, we could accelerate the construction of Zhejiang IRI (Innovation resource integration). It is of significant importance in promoting regional innovative capacity and enhancing the economic performance in international competition.This dissertation focus on tow aspects: Zhejiang IRI process and its determinants. In the first part, through systematic review of current literatures, the author constructs theoretical framework for innovation resource integration and analyzed its rationales. Then, model the evolutionary path by applying the preceding theorems into Zhejiang IRI process, different stages are distinguished according to industry properties, the source of technology and the involvement of local governors. The status quo is also covered. The next part exams the dominant factor in Zhejiang IRI process. This part focuses on two aspects: 1) the actors of IRI system and 2) the rational of IRI system functioning. In the dominant actor study the author use time series factor analysis abstracted the economic factors which determine innovation resource distribution , then calculated the total factor scores for innovation players and analyzing its underlying trends; as the dominant factors of IRI system functioning, the author use knowledge production function measured the role of industry and economic environment. Here are the concluding remarks: Zhejiang innovation activity has experienced structural change from government-led to market-driven, it is evolving and not yet reach equilibrium; Localization economy contributes much in Zhejiang innovation process, industry clustering also affects the time trend of knowledge input / output model. The last part, based on the theoretical framework and empirical findings, the author conclude some suggestions for policy makers.
