Abstract


The Lv’s family in He Nan was a well-known bureaucratic family in Northern Song. There were many officials among the successors of the family, some of them were very important ministers. They had crucial position in Northern Song. During their political careers, members of the Lvs formed some common political style. It became a special historical phenomenon and influenced the government circles in Northern Song profoundly. This paper studies the changes of the Lvs’ political activities and status. Hope to reflect the characteristics of this kind of big bureaucratic families and bureaucratic politics in Northern Song. This paper includes six chapters. The first chapter tells about the basic situation of the Lv’s family before the Qing-Li times. This period can be divided into three stages: the beginning period, the period of rise and the period of the establishment of the special political status. The second chapter studies the development-characteristics of the Lv’s family from Qing-Li to Shao-Sheng period. The family was in the period of great prosperity at the height of power and splendors. The third chapter comments on the decline process of the family’s status from the Shao-Sheng period to the end of Northern Song. The fourth chapter analyses the relationship between the Lv’s families bureaucratic style and the conservative intellectual atmosphere in Northern Song. The conservative and prudent style of the family was the result of seeking transient peace by hook and crook in Northern Song. The political activities influenced the politics in Song dynasty. The fifth chapter analyses the subjective and objective reasons of the Lvs’ prosperity and their different uses during the development of the family. The six chapter analyses the changes of the political and economical living conditions of the clan in Song dynasty, the imperial policy limit and the retrogress of the Lv’s family made it’s power not last as long as the old noble family.
