Abstract

There have been about ten thousand antibiotics since Fleming discoveried penicillin in 1928, only one hundred kinds of antibacterial drugs have been introduced for clinical use. With the increase in bacterial resistance to existing antibacterial agents, a renewed effort should be made to seek new antibiotics effective against pathogenic bacteria resistant to current antibiotics. In this paper, an Actinomycete strain, 19 - 1,was isolated from giant panda ’ s excrement collected in Fuping Nature Reserve and was found to produce antibiotics. Its fermentation conditions suitable for the production of antibiotics were studied and medium having the following composition were found useful:3.0% soluble starch, 2.0% soybean cake meal, 0.05% KH2PO4 0.025% MgSO4 0.4% (NH4)2SO4 and 0.3% CaCO3 For the good production of antibiotics, It was cultured in 500-ml Erlenmeyer flasks containing 60~80ml of fermentation medium on a rotary shaker (180~220r/m) at 25 癈 for 96 hours. The antibiotics against Gram-positive organisms include pathogenic bacteria resistant to methicillin were characterized as Anthrocycline antibiotics. Using sequence analysis of the 16s rDNA, the organism was identified as Streptomyces sp.
