Background and Objective: This study by reviewing and summarizing the Beijing Union Medical College Hospital from January 1983 - December 2009 abnormalities of thyroid function during hospitalization and death in patients with clinical data, analysis of the major causes of death and associated risk factors, aimed at discovering thyroid function abnormalities in hospitalized patients leading cause of death and the leading cause of death, through early prevention, early diagnosis, early treatment, reduce thyroid dysfunction in disease-related deaths. retrospective analysis method to analyze the major causes of death, including mortality, causes of death than death causes, treatment, complications or comorbidities and other conditions. Statistical analysis using SPSS 13.0 software package. Results: Beijing Union Medical College Hospital, died of thyroid dysfunction syndrome 27 years 75 cases of hospitalized patients, the mortality rate was 1.66% (75/4506). Male and all-cause mortality was 2.45%, and 1.36% for women, the difference was significant (p lt; 0.01). Leading cause of death in the malignant tumor is the most common, accounting for 37.3%, followed by endocrine and metabolic diseases 32.0%, respiratory diseases 10.7%, 8.0% of the circulatory system diseases, immune system diseases, 6.7%, 2.7% of the blood system diseases, severe liver disease and uremia 1.3% each. Died of cancer patients with hematological malignancies most common, accounting for 39.3% of the total cancer mortality, followed by respiratory malignancy (32.1%) and malignant tumors of the digestive system (17.9%). Mortality was significantly higher than that of patients with hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism patients (p lt; 0.01). As the main cause of death in 30.6% of the total mortality of complications related to hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism complications leading causes of death in 26.7% of the total mortality, cause of death complications of hyperthyroidism thyroid crisis ( 10.7%), hyperthyroidism, heart disease (6.7%) and hyperthyroidism leukopenia disease (6.7%). Conclusion: This study shows that the death of thyroid function abnormalities in hospitalized patients is uncommon. Cancer is the most common cause of death, which is the most common hematological malignancies. The hyperthyroid patients BEL less more patients died of complications of hyperthyroidism. Hypothyroidism patients died of cancer. These findings suggest that thyroid function abnormalities in patients with an increased risk of malignancy, but need to further expand the scope of the study to be confirmed and to explore its causes.
