With the digitization process, the development of digital imaging systems, performance optimization, and visual information display, storage, and transmission has a very close connection with the reaction mechanism of the human visual system to digitize. Image compression, the watermark information is hidden, or the printed image processing (such as half-toning patterns, inkjet), applications based on the characteristics of the human visual or visual limitations, so the establishment of HVS (Human Visual System,), a computer model of the human visual system to the quality evaluation of digital images (including printed image) has become an important research topic in the field. Image compression coding technology and its bit stream transmission control in the information space, a new subject for the evaluation of image quality. A variety of visual information and digital images optimized to meet the human needs is one of the biggest challenges of the image field, give full consideration to the human eye perceives the way of visual information can greatly help us to understand and to accomplish this task. This paper first analyzes the visual structure of the human visual system (HVS), imaging pathways, which focuses on visual basic characteristics, including visual nonlinear, multi-channel processing mechanism and masking effect, and gives the corresponding mathematical expressions . And then briefly describes the currently common to several image quality evaluation model, which focuses on the the PQS (Picture Quality Scale image quality scale) model, FIM (Fuzzy Image Metric image blur criterion) model and its corresponding algorithm. Transformed into a model based on HVS PEM (Perceptual Error Metric, perceived error Standards), it will be the original image and the degraded image perception domain error analysis. In a multi-channel processing HVS mechanism, the spatial frequency of the image by visual system characteristics of masking effect, the perception of the band-pass function is divided into five bands, respectively, for filtering, the subjective quality evaluation of characteristics of the image in order to simulate the human eye column. And subjective evaluation value of a group of images with the above model scoring value comparison, the experimental results show that this analog multi-channel image perception domain evaluation model, the the PEM values ??obtained sufficient reaction masking of the human visual system The effect of the characteristics of the model has good versatility and consistency with the subjective evaluation results for image quality evaluation. The discussed above characteristics of the various models, as well as the work to be done in the future development and the next step of the image quality assessment.
