Abstract


This study based upon second language acquisition theory and previous studies, by researching students from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan as its object. Investigation through corpus, questionnaires, and interview law, collocation statistical description and so on, in order to research the usage situation of Chinese classifier by Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan students in elementary, intermediate and senior stage. Also it concluded the feature of usage of Chinese classifier from 336 Chinese compositions written by these students as one part of corpus and some other 219 questionnaires among these students.Investigation through questionnaires and corpus reveals that the number of classifier used in compositions is 63, in which the correctly used words counting for 48. The rate of correction and usage was dominated by Chinese word Ge which was followed by tian, dian zhong, ci, nian, sui, etc. corresponding to Russian. The inappropriate of classifier usage ranges wildly from absence of words generalization of Chinese word Ge displacement of classifier to overuse of words. The conclusion was confirmed by the mistakes from the questionnaires. The students from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in elementary, intermediate and senior stage commonly used memory strategies when they learning Chinese classifiers. But avoiding strategies, society strategies, dictionary strategies, borrow mother language strategies are often used by elementary and intermediate stage. And compensation strategies, metacognitive strategies are often used by senior stage.The failure of using classifier by Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan students’associates with many factors, such as interference of mother tongue and target language culture learning strategy and miscarriage of teacher’s teaching segment, teaching material, teaching tools etc. We suggest some strategies to solve the problem which including that compare language study and teaching and dividing different stages in teaching Chinese classifier; correcting the failure of language learning; improving learning material; improving teachers second self-quality would also contribute to overcoming the problem.
