Abstract


Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a very common cause of death and tremendously threatens the health of people. Coronary heart disease has been a public health problem of the world that all of the people are paying close attention to. In China the incidence and death rate of CHD are increasing very fast. MONICA experiment has showed that in the 14 years from 1984 to 1997, the CHD incidence has increased by 67%.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) has much advantage of the treatment of coronary heart disease. According to the clinical experience, generally speaking , coronary heart disease could be closely related to several etiological factors such as attack of cold , blockage of phlegm, stasis of blood , deficiency of heart and kidney yin , deficiency of heart and kidney yang and so on. Different patient generally belongs to a certain type or a mixed type.Prof. Yang Guanlin has engaged in cardiac internal medicine for more than 20 years, skilled in internal medicine ,especially in the field of coronary heart disease. Prof. Yang Guanlin has his own idea that the combination of phlegm and stasis is the main cause and pathogenesis of coronary heart disease. Furthermore, there is close correlation between phlegm and stasis, which manifests that phlegm can cause stasis and stasis can also cause phlegm. The derivation relationship forms the blend of phlegm and stasis. In terms of modernmedicine such blend corresponds with atherosclerosis which is the main etiology and pathogenesis of coronary heart disease. According to this theory, in the clinical treatment he applies the method of removing phlegm and stasis to treat the patients who are suffering from coronary heart disease and in return the patients achieve good curative effect.Much research has showed that the method of removing phlegm and stasis had good curative effect. Clinically, it can obviously improve hemorheology of CHD patients and lower blood viscosity, plasma viscosity and packed cell volume. Also it can correct metabolic disorder of lipid such as lower total cholesterol, free cholesterol and low density lipoprotein as well.Granules of phlegm-stasis removing was developed under the guidance of this theory, which clinically achieved good curative effects. In his research of inhibition of platelet activation by granules of phlegm-stasis removing, it was found that the granules could limit p-selectin level and lower TC, TG and LDL-C, which consequently made the atherosclerosis clot contract.In a word, traditional Chinese medicine, especially method of phlegm-stasis removing has a bright future in preventing and treating coronary heart disease, which has been proved by a great number of clinical cases.
