Abstract


Teleplay 《Crystal Boys》has set foot in the forbidden zone of sub-culture of homosexuality, artistically achieved a great success instead of repulsion as expected before, and gained extensive admiration from the audience in different cultural backgrounds as well. In this article, using 《Crystal Boys》 as a textbook, and taking sub-culture of homosexuality for an example, the author try to analyze the unique function of television in guiding the audience to develop their abilities in intercultural communication, so as to demonstrate the cultivation function of mass media subtly exerted on audience.The results of this study are different from what Gerbner’s analysis. Thus, both the operationalization of television view and the generality of the cultivation hypothesis is discussed with further suggestions.
