Abstract


Since it was put forward firstly in 1990, the theory of the core competences has taken up the leadership speedily and become one of the vital theories directing company management. The issue of core competences measurement is more and more concerned with the deep study to the theory of the core competences, but so far the study of the core competences measurement is so few especially in large-scale statistical study that the empirical study to measuring the essence and function of core competences is very promising. It is a practical meaning studying on the competence difference between the company and other competitors all over the world. In this background, this paper manages to probe into a scientific and effective measurable method to measure the company core competences.By using the method of theory analysis, patent statistical research and empirical research, Firstly, the author puts forward the classified measurement using patent index after clearly defining the core competences and all-round reviewing other measurements. Secondly, she builds the index system using patent data and measures the company technical competence, marketing competence, organizing competence and total competence by using improved hiberarchy analytical method. Finally, the paper chooses nine electronic companies in the Fortune 500 of the world to test the feasibility of the classified patent measurement.
