Abstract

The transformation of society and the pluralism of culture structure from 1980s make it possible for women to speak their mind. Female literature grows up again and earns a real place in history.“Parents- children relationship”, as an important writing resource for Chinese writers, possesses rich cultural content and particular emotional value. Therefore, it is favored by female writers and widely presented in their works. This paper mainly works on the important works rich in female conscience written by the most influential female writers such as Zhang Jie, Chen Ran and so on since 1980s. Based on the female literature theory home and abroad and criticism achievements of female literature appearing recently, this thesis makes an analysis of the culture implication behind“parents- children relationship”by means of through comprehension of the works. Thus, it aims to explore the emotional implication of father-son relationship and analyze the deep-seated cultural connotation behind the relationship. It makes an effort to present the picture that female literature deconstructs men dominating society system and explores female’s fate in real society. The paper is composed of three parts:Chapter one :“parents- children relationship”--- a brand-new perspective of female studyThrough a comprehensive survey of Chinese literature history of thousands years, we can see that each stage has its own characteristics of time.“Parents- children relationship”in literature came into being in children’s obedience to parents and evolves through contradiction and conflicts. Since 20th century, parents- children relationship frequently appears in literature works. The competition between parents and children in the family represent the competition among political, economical and cultural system. This relationship takes part in the construction of many aspects such as society, race status, class degree value and so on. Female works in the late of 20th century present love and hate bound in blood relationship through the cultural concept that blood relationship between parents and children determines fate. Therefore, the analysis of“parents- children relationship”in novels comes into my mind as a particular insight into the study of female literature since 1980s.Chapter two: the classification of“parents- children relationship”in female novelsIf we overcome the legendary structure of father and look through“parents- children relationship”in female literature since 1980s again, the relationship can be divided up into three categories: normal“parents-children relationship”, abnormal“parents- children relationship”,“parents- children relationship”over the shadow of Cultural Revolution. The thorough reading of the novels can not only display the inner motivation of female narration but possess particular cultural value.Chapter three: the cultural connotation of“parents- children relationship”in female literatureThis part is aimed at exploring the culture connotation behind the character construction in“parents- children relationship”in female literature. It can be summed up into three classifications: the affection for father, ignorance of father, killing father. The affection for father is the conversion of children’s life and dream and includes female’s aspiration for the ideal father and awe for father’s stateliness.“The affection for father”complex is analyzed through the work of Chen Ran.“The ignorance of father”implies the inexistence of father’s power. The jocosity and retrospect of father power will be studied through two aspects of“ignorance of father power”and“retrospect of father power”.“The ignorance of father”complex will be analyzed in the works of Can Xue.“Killing father”is the revenge because of children’s treachery and the complete overthrow of father power. The analysis of“killing father”will be made through the works of Jiang Zidan.The works mentioned in this paper make a thorough retrospect and sharp criticism of the parents-children characters and fate from the female’s point of view, feeling and experience. Through the description of female’s traditional and historical pursuit, the works represent the breakthrough of female’s struggle for the right of speech in the male-dominated speech situation and the effort to break through predicament confronted by them.
