Abstract


In the process of interpersonal communication, people tend to influence or manipulate others to form a favorable impression of their own.This involves the process of self-presentation that organize or control our own aspects of the self-information.Self-presentation refers to the process of proactively monitoring and managing their own impression in others view. Appropriate self-presentation tactics can help individuals more quickly adapt to society and expand to better human communication. As previous studies showing the of the self-presentation’s different ideas and methods,the results of the promotion has certain limitations, there was no uniform conclusion with the characteristics of self-presentation tendency in self-presentation tactics. Therefore, it is necessary to demonstrate the formation of self-presentation tactics for a more representative and effective quantitative tool.In this study, a comprehensive analysis has been based on the scales of self-presentation, according cross-cultural adaptation in the program of psychometric scale to translate foreign Self-presentation Tactics (SPT) Scale which was high representation, good reliability and validity. Through surveying a total of 700 students for the Chinese version of self-presentation scale, self-esteem scale, self-monitoring, social anxiety scale, using correlation analysis statistical methods, the study developed the reliability and validity information of a Chinese version of Self-presentation Tactics Scale. Finally, we took difference test about the gender, grade , whether the class cadre and other categorical variables for revised scale data ,then discussed characteristics of using self-presentation tactics with college students of the Chinese cultural background. The results showed that:1.Developed a Self-presentation Tactics Scale for the Chinese version ,which composed of 40 items, 9 dimensions, 5 degrees. The 9 dimensions include intimidation, ingratiation, self-enhancement, rationalization, exemplification, excuse, weakness, and flaunt credit, off responsibility.2.Revised scale has good internal consistency reliability, which has reached the psychometric requirements.3.Self-presentation Tactics scale was significantly correlated with self-monitoring, social anxiety, self-esteem scale . SPT scale is positive correlation with self-monitoring and self-esteem ,but the negative correlation with social anxiety.They confirmed that the revised scale has good empirical validity. 4.The result that Self-presentation tactics scale score of male students was significantly higher than female students, class cadre was significantly higher than non-class cadres.
