Abstract


The research object in this dissertation is the cultural and music study on the Song and Dance Duet in Inner Mongolia in the context of urbanization. From the perspective of its generation, development and transmission, it takes the Song and Dance Duet in Inner Mongolia as an example to highlight the characteristics of the process of urbanization, and further expands the research ideas. The range of this study is Baotou city in Tumochuan region, Inner Mongolia,which the author selects as the case study, and the urbanization process is divided into several important stages, namely, population migration and inter-ethnic culture communication, semi-farm semi-pasturing area-agricultural economy in transition, modern urban and industrial and contemporary information technology. The Song and Dance Duet experiences the process of embryonic form, generation, development, and transmission, and has the development vestiges in different periods, which are not only the products of historical development, but also contemporary side-by-side phenomenon, reflecting the features of coexistence.Currently, the study of the Song and Dance Duet by the academic is mainly on the introduction to art, concentrating on the music morphology of Song and Dance Duet, Mongolian and Chinese fusion, aesthetics, opera, rap and linguistics, etc. Only few scholars and researchers focus on the music ethnography with the combination of the Song and Dance Duet and social factors by placing it into the "Urbanization" and social Change. Therefore, based on the research status and the’culture music’in the study of ethnic music, the author conducts the research not only confining the surface factor study of duet music varieties on the Song and Dance Duet, but also trying to reveal the perspective of urbanization in order to have a breakthrough from the research perspective,.In the pattern of multi-layered integration of Chinese traditional music, which shows the characteristic of integrity, regionality and localization, the Song and Dance Duet reflects the diversification of the national culture with the horizontal plane combination; and highlights the stratification inside of Song and Dance Duet with the vertical polymerization of three-dimensional angle. The paper adopts related theory and method of ethnomusicology and the combination of different level methodologies including "macroscopic, middle, and microcosmic view" and "Superculture, interculture, and Subculture" to concentrate on the status of the Song and Dance Duet survival, and further comprehensively considers the overall cultural phenomenon to reveal its inherent cultural essence. The basic content of this paper includes:1. In different stages of social development, the Song and Dance Duet experiences the embryonic form, generation and development along with the context of ’Mongolia Folk Tune’,’Zazen Tone’, and’dance-local opera’, its performances exhibits in the form of ’street performers’,’troupe’, and’nationalized theater’.2. By placing the Song and Dance Duet in the context of social change and urbanization differences, its individual details are focused on. Two heritors, one is from Hequ County in Shanxi Province and the other is from Tumote Banner in Inner Mongolia, are chosen for the case descriptions to expound the issue between the identity construction of performers and cultural identity in the process of social transformation.3.The performances of the Song and Dance Duet and the development of its genre form have gone through different stages of the process, which is from the’folk song’,’folk dance’,’small theater’, to’drama’; therefore, the author utilizes different methodologies to analyze the music form and the artistic style of the Song and Dance Duet, and pays close attention to the relationship in the integration of multi-layered pattern so as to examine the traditional Chinese music in a culture and overall vision.
