Abstract


This study takes vivo multi-channel neuronal recording technique to record the neuronal activities and local field potentials (LFPs) in prelimbic cortex area when rats were performing win-shift task in eight-arm radial maze, examining the diacharge of prelimbic cortex neuron under the dual role of reward information and spatial memory information. It is revealed that the working memory performance can be better in high reward conditions. In addition, we found five characteristic types of neuronal firing, and a great majority of prelimbic cortex neurons recorded showed significantly higher firing in high reward condition. No matter in high reward condition or low reward condition,the prelimbic cortex neurons showed higher firing in reward arms than in non-reward arms. The activities of the local field potential theta oscillation will appear in the three parts of the win-shift task. Thus, the responses of prelimbic cortex neurons in rat reflected information about expected rewards can modulate information in working memory, and the prelimbic cortex is part of a neural system which merges spatial information with its motivation
