Abstract


The 17th Century is a very important stage of the recent England’s transition period. The establishment of recent England national church began from the Tudors Henry VIII’s religious-reform, perfected by Edward VI and final stereotyped in Elizabeth I’s period. Undoubtedly,as a continuity of religious reform and the development of the national church, the Early Stuarts (1603-1649) is a critical period, during this period, three principal lines:Catholic, Anglican, and Puritan intertwined and complex, religious problem, religious conflict and various religious policy intertwined, each kind of religious policy’s implementation were branded with the era of transition itch.James I and Charles I made various religious policy to mainten the monarch’s religious leaders-identity and defend the status of national church. But the policy’s implementation is not problem-free, which eventually led to the outbreak of Puritan revolution.The paper can be divided into three major parts:the foreword, the text, and the conclusion. The foreword briefly introduces the brief reasons and the significance for the choice of this topic, the present situation of the academic research in and abroad, the research objectives and methods, as well as the innovation of this paper. The text is made up of four chapters:The first makes a concise portrayal of the religious development status of England since 16th Century, that is, the historical setting of the religious policy of the Early Stuart. The second mainly probes into the religious thought of James I and his religious policy. The third discusses religious policy of Charles I,Lard and long-term parliament.The forth aims at analyzing the characteristics of the religious policy and its influence, elaborating the impact of the religious environment caused by the policy towards the the England politics, economic, and religious development. The conclusion summarizes the historical significance of the Early Stuart’s religious policy, deepening the understanding of the religious development of that period.
